It’s been over 10 years since I last ate meat, so I’m finally at the point where there aren’t many meat dishes that I crave. There are a few exceptions to this, though, and perhaps the biggest one is wings. I was never all that into wings when I still ate meat because I hated spicy things, but I’ve grown to like a little bit of spice and after marrying someone who LOVES wings I’ve found myself craving them anytime I smell the delicious sauce. It turns out I’m not alone – when I posted a preview of this recipe on Instagram earlier I was shocked at how many people were excited about it!
For the longest time I just accepted that I’d never be able to enjoy them again, but then the cauliflower craze began and everything changed. I was so excited the first time I saw cauliflower wings on a menu, but after trying them I was pretty disappointed. The texture was way too crunchy and there wasn’t enough sauce and something just wasn’t right, so I abandoned the idea that cauliflower wings could be an adequate substitute.
Fast forward several years to this past summer and while visiting one of my favorite local spots, I decided to give their cauliflower wings a try. Guys, they were life-changingly good. The texture was perfect and the sauce was divine. I decided in that moment that my new goal was to recreate these delicious cauliflower wings. It took several months and many attempts, but I’ve finally perfected my recipe. They’re so easy to make and do a great job of satisfying that wings craving. I think the texture is ideal, but see my note in the instructions section about how you can vary this recipe if you prefer yours a bit crunchier! The blue cheese sauce is the perfect finishing touch. The nice thing about this recipe is that it’s super easy to tweak – if you’re looking for more of a buffalo taste than barbecue, you can just sub buffalo sauce for the barbecue sauce and cook the cauliflower the same way.
Anyways, enough talking (or typing). Check out my recipe for BBQ Cauliflower Wings with Blue Cheese Dip below! And if you make any tweaks or try it with any new sauces, let me know! I’d love to hear your ideas. Hope you enjoy!

minutesIngredients
- For the Cauliflower Wings:
1 head cauliflower, chopped into small florets
1/2 cup almond milk
1/2 cup flour
1 TBSP cornstarch
1/2 cup barbecue sauce
1/2 tsp hot sauce (and more to taste)
Garlic powder to taste
- For the Blue Cheese Dip:
1/2 cup nonfat greek yogurt
1/2 cup blue cheese crumbles
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 425 degrees.
- Place cauliflower chunks in a microwave-safe bowl and pour in enough water to just cover the bottom of the bowl. Cover and microwave for 1 1/2 to 2 minutes (I prefer my cauliflower less crunchy, so if you like it crunch I recommend skipping this step).
- In a small bowl, stir together the almond milk, flour, and cornstarch.
- Add the microwaved cauliflower to a large mixing bowl and stir in the cornstarch mixture until evenly coated.
- Spread the cauliflower over a baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes.
- Remove cauliflower from oven and place in a large mixing bowl. Add in the barbecue sauce, hot sauce, and some garlic powder to taste and stir until evenly coated.
- Place the cauliflower mixture back on the baking sheet and return to the oven for an additional 5-10 minutes.
- While the cauliflower finishes cooking, make the blue cheese dip by combining the greek yogurt and blue cheese crumbles in a small bowl.
- Remove cauliflower from oven and give it a good stir. Serve with blue cheese dip and celery. Enjoy!
